Denim is always big in fashion, but this season there are numerous trending denim styles making waves in South Korea—and many of them are being pioneered by your favorite idols. Korean fashion and beauty network Unpa has named 7 of the idols who are the biggest denim trendsetters right now. Here are the styles everyone will want to emulate this spring.
1. Jennie (BLACKPINK)
Ever the trendsetter, BLACKPINK’s Jennie is one of the idols making denim big this season. She showed off a feminine denim look with her Sandro Paris tweed-and-denim jacket at the airport on February 21.
Denim one pieces will also be big this spring. Jennie wore one in her HIGHCUT pictorial for Calvin Klein.
2. Taemin (SHINee)
SHINee’s Taemin is one of the male idols making jean jackets big right now. He wore this light, oversized denim jacket from System Homme on his way to Paris to shoot his new music video.
A vivid blue cardigan draped over his shoulders added some interest to the outfit, while the rest of the look was kept neutral to draw everyone’s eyes to his outerwear.
3. Ong Seong Wu
Another style that’s gaining popularity is the denim-on-denim look. Typically, wearing too much denim looks like overkill. Ong Seong Wu, however, showed how you can make the style work: mismatched denim.
By wearing a vivid denim wash jacket with paler jeans, he stopped the double-denim outfit from looking like one big blur.
Suzy has been working with world-renowned jeans brand GUESS for years now, so it’s no surprise that she’s another idol whose denim looks everyone wants to imitate. Like Jennie, she showed off the feminine denim trend with a denim-meets-tweed GUESS jacket.
She also showed that the classic jeans and t-shirt look can be enhanced with unique pieces. Here, she wore loose-cut ruffle waist jeans with a puffy-sleeved green floral top to create a more feminine silhouette.
Short denim jackets are always popular, but Hyuna is one of the idols making long denim coats trendy this season. In one of her recent shoots for MLB Korea, Hyuna wore this New York Yankees overfit trench coat.
The beauty of a coat like this is that it can be worn in numerous ways. Hyuna wore it belted at the waist, almost like a dress, but fellow Korean artist Kim Wansun was seen wearing it open in a more street-like style.
Even when she’s not in Korea, former Girls’ Generation member Jessica is always making waves in Korean fashion. Like Ong Seong Wu, she also showcased the denim-on-denim trend. Both her jacket and jeans in this shoot have the same color wash, but the unique cuts and seams add interest to the outfit.
7. Chaeyeon (DIA)
Last but not least, DIA’s Chaeyeon is also setting the double-denim trend this season. Her denim jacket with denim shorts look is very unique, and not everyone could pull it off, but somehow it works on Chaeyeon.
