JYP Entertainment, YG Entertainment, and SM Entertainment have earned the nickname, “The Big 3”, due to how incredibly successful their artists are. With that being said, some may be curious as to what qualities these 3 companies look for in their artists. Here’s a look at some of the qualities that JYP Entertainment, YG Entertainment, and SM Entertainment look for in their artists.

1. JYP Entertainment

Park Jin Young has shared in the past that he tends to look for healthy, well-mannered people when selecting people to join his company.

Whether it be men or women, I like those who are healthy.

Even if your singing skills and dancing skills are great, I can’t help [produce] them if they’re not bright, pure, and healthy.

Park Jin Young also tries to find artists who have both the skills and personality to succeed in the K-Pop industry. He does this because he wants his artists to be happy during their careers.

Between skill and personality… If someone is lacking one of the two, I will help them to gain both.

When Yang Hyun Suk was the head of YG Entertainment, the company prioritized skills over anything else.

3. SM Entertainment

While this wasn’t a statement by Lee Soo Man, a former SM Entertainment revealed just how strict the company is with their training. The trainee shared that SM Entertainment has extreme standards and that trainees get severely punished if they make even the simplest mistake. It seems that SM Entertainment values those who are talented, as well as those who learn from their mistakes.

If you’re late or go against the rules you have to sing while running around the practice room 10 times. You train by singing while doing sit-ups and while someone hits your stomach in order to develop muscle and vocal power.”

If you do anything wrong, you write about what you did wrong and you aren’t allowed to practice until you can clearly state what you did wrong.

Idols from SM Entertainment are also known for their visuals, and Super Junior‘s Heechul once revealed on an episode of Life Bar, that if you have a “horse-like image”, then you get an automatic pass into the company.
