“Minari” Actress Youn Yuh Jung Humbly Expresses How Her First Oscar Nomination Is Equal To The Award Itself

As the first Korean actress to be nominated, she shared how happy and humbled she is for the nomination!

Minari actress Youn Yuh Jung was recently nominated for an Oscar, and as the first Korean actress to have been nominated, she shared her thoughts on the nomination!

Youn Yuh Jung plays the eccentric grandmother Soonja in the film and was recently nominated for the “Best Supporting Actress” award by The Academy.

Regarding her nomination, Youn Yuh Jung shared love for the actors also nominated for the same award, and also expressed her heartfelt gratitude, saying a nomination was as good as winning the award itself!

I’m so honored to get a nomination at the Academy Awards. As all five candidates have done their best in their respective movies, I think being nominated is just like being awarded.

Youn Yuh Jung then talked about how happy she is for the love of the Korean public, and whether she wins or not, still considers the nomination itself to be a huge honor!

Frankly, I’ve been grateful for the support of Korean people but felt burdened at the same time. I know everybody will want me to win the title from now on. But this is not a playoff game of actors, placing them in order.

A nomination is as valuable as a trophy.

The legendary actress also gave her thoughts on participating in the film “Minari” as well!

I thought it would be fruitful and tough to participate in a small project made by Korean Americans. I want to thank all the people who have helped and supported me until I came to enjoy this honor and pleasure.
