RBW Deletes Post And Issues Apology About Statement On One-China Principle

Avex and RBW both have trainees participating in a Chinese audition show and are under fire for two different reasons.

RBW, a South Korean entertainment company, and Avex, a Japanese management company, currently have trainees participating in a Chinese audition show. They are both under fire for two different reasons but related to the same issue.

Avex had previously said via their website that they would be holding concerts in countries overseas, including Korea, Taiwan, and China. Currently, Avex has trainees competing in the Chinese audition show, Produce Camp 2021 (also known as CHUANG 2021), which is similar to Produce 101.

Netizens have resurfaced Avex’s statement that they are interpreting to mean that the company views China and Taiwan as separate, independent countries. As a result, the company is being criticized by Chinese citizens, particularly on Weibo.

RBW, the label known for MAMAMOO, ONEUS, and ONEWE, has three trainees from their sub-agency RBW Japan participating in CHUANG 2021. RBW released a statement on their social media in regards to the controversy.

It stated that RBW adheres to the One-China Principle, which means that country states, such as Taiwan, are not recognized as a country but instead are under China. International fans have responded negatively to RBW’s decision through social media. The company has since deleted their post across social media and issued an apology.

Some netizens believe that the companies are utilizing political issues to garner publicity for the show.

In a previous version of this article, it said that RBW had one trainee in CHUANG 2021. There are actually three trainees from RBW Japan participating in the show.
