TXT’s Shocking “LO$ER=LO♡ER” Ending, And Its Heartbreaking Meaning

Here’s what really happened.

TXT‘s new music video for “LO$ER=LO♡ER” takes fans on a wild ride and delivers a shocking ending that nobody was ready for.

Some fans can’t help noticing how strongly “LO$ER=LO♡ER” MV resembles the 1991 movie Thelma & Louise. This film follows two friends as they embark on a road trip to escape their dreary, mundane lives. One is a diner waitress, the other is a housewife married to a controlling salesman.

Things take a harrowing turn when Louise shoots a man to save Thelma. They decide to flee to Mexico to avoid murder charges. Along the way, Thelma and Louise rob a store, in need of cash after a conman steals Louise’s life savings.

The friends press on, desperate for freedom and control over their own lives, but the authorities eventually catch up with them at the edge of the Grand Canyon. In this moment, Thelma and Louise decide to keep going, slam on the gas, and drive over the edge.

In TXT’s music video, the members are also on the run from their everyday lives as well as from the consequences of their actions. Like Louise, Hueningkai works at a diner. He flees with his coworker after experiencing mistreatment on the job.

Like Thelma, Beomgyu is escaping an abusive situation. In his case, the abuser is his own father who disapproves of his son’s desire to pursue music.

There is also a theft. Yeonjun steals a bag of cash he finds at an ATM machine.

At the end of the video, TXT’s members smile at each other, coming to an unspoken agreement, before driving off a cliff in true Thelma & Louise fashion. In this scene, the desert setting and the camera work mirror that of the film…

…but what does it all mean? Fans have brainstormed a few heartbreaking theories. If “LO$ER=LO♡ER” MV takes place after “0X1=LOVESONG” MV, does that mean Yeonjun was the crash’s sole survivor? Was he hallucinating about his “deceased” friends?

Even the crash itself could be a hallucination, depending on how it fits into the story.

What if the crash never happened at all? As one fan pointed out, it’s very unlikely that anyone could survive the accident. It’s possible that TXT wanted to drive off the cliff but only imagined doing it.

There is, however, a happier possibility. This fan proposed that TXT isn’t driving to their demise, but to the Magic Island seen in their previous videos. The Magic Island is a place of refuge and freedom from their harsh reality.
