TXT‘s leader Soobin met with South Korean rapper Lee Young Ji the day before TXT’s “Good Boy Gone Bad” promotions.
The two had hilarious chemistry that kept the interview both chaotic and fun. Towards the end of their conversation, the topic turned more serious when Soobin shared his true feelings about being a K-Pop idol. The laidback setting allowed Soobin to open up about his inner conflicts.
Soobin revealed that after he debuted, he often felt that his personality was not a good fit for being a celebrity. When Young Ji asked why he felt that way, Soobin had an interesting analogy.
To Soobin, he felt he was constantly trying to match his personality to the expected image of a celebrity, but instead, it felt too forced.
After my debut, for a few years, I’ve been thinking in a way that I am less shining than [the] other members and receiving less attention than other members.
Because of this, Soobin decided the best option was to blend in with others instead of trying to stand out.
When Soobin was told he would make his debut, he felt he wasn’t ready. He lacked confidence in his skills, “I wanted to practice more as I was not ready yet, but they made me debut.” There was additional pressure when he was named the group’s leader.
Young Ji had a supportive message for Soobin, expressing her confidence in his skills as an idol and leader of TXT.
Young Ji also acknowledged the pressure he must have felt, not only being the leader of the group but being the junior group to BTS.
Soobin gratefully received her kind words, saying they had almost made him tear up. He shared that despite these doubts, TXT’s fans’ love gives him confidence. Young Ji pointed out that fan meetings must be hard for idols because if they appear tired, it could be mistaken that they don’t want to be at the event. Soobin said it’s the opposite for him and that he gains energy from meeting his fans and loves the opportunity to meet them in person.
Hopefully, Soobin’s doubts were put to rest after TXT’s successful “Good Boy Gone Bad” promotions.
